Recovering Deleted Files from SSD Drive

SSD or Solid State Drives are nothing but storage devices like hard drives but solid state drives are more reliable than them. SSD are lighter in weight than conventional hard drives and use flash memory to store data in them. Hence they are non-volatile storage devices i.e. data can be stored in them and it won’t be erased when power connection is cut.  SSD can serve as both external and internal storage devices.

Why SSD is more reliable than conventional hard drives?

  • SSD uses flash memory technology unlike HDD. This technology is a type of electronically erasable programmable ROM, memory chips that retain data without power.
  • SSD have faster access time compared to traditional hard drives i.e. data can be accessed or transferred at a faster rate
  • SSD don’t have any moving parts like traditional hard drives and hence there is no data loss due to collision of moving parts or platters.
  • SSD are light weight drives when compared to HDD and power consumption is also less

Since data cannot be lost from SSD because of moving parts, it does not mean that they are completely immune to data loss. There are other ways by which user may lose their important files from these Solid State drives. For example:

Accidental deletion: Deleting data by mistake because of human errors is the most common deletion scenario. Users while deleting unwanted data from SSD might delete few important files along with them using “Shift+Delete” …option. In such cases, deleted files get bypassed from the Recycle Bin.

Malware or Spyware attack: Files and folders in SSD can get corrupted because of virus attack. Virus may delete or hide files from the SSD. This software helps in recovering such files.

Deletion due to formatting: Sometimes files become inaccessible because of bad sectors or MBR corruption and users will have no other option but to format the drive. Once the SSD is formatted, all the data in it gets deleted.

Third party tool: Users may use third party software like CCleaner to clean up unwanted (junk) data and free memory space on their SSD. These tools may not be safe and trustworthy and may end up deleting few important files and folders along with the unwanted data.

Improper Shutdown of system: Files can get deleted when you shut down the system improperly while transferring files.

To recover the deleted files from SSD, the safest and most reliable option is to use deleted file recovery tool. This tool mainly deals with recovering files from SSD and HDD. Let us now look at few amazing features of this software.

Features of deleted file recovery software:

  • It makes use of sophisticated and complex algorithm to recover deleted data from SSD.
  • This software helps in recovery of data from both external and internal SSD brands like Samsung, SanDisk, Plextor, Seagate etc
  • Recovering steps are simple and easily understandable by both novice and experienced users.
  • It can perform deleted file recovery from SSD from almost all the data loss scenarios
  • This software is supported by Windows operating system like Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows XP home edition and Pro edition, Windows 8.
  • It also supports SSD data recovery on computers which are running on Mac OS X versions like leopard, lion, Snow leopard, Maverick, Yosemite etc
  • This tool is capable of recovering files of all formats, for e.g. image files (.JPG, .JPEG, .GIF etc), music files(.avi, .mp3, .wav etc), video files(.mp4, .flv etc) and also documents (.doc, .docx)
  • It can also perform deleted file recovery from SATA/SCSI/ATA hard disks

Carry out the following simple steps to recover deleted files from SSD:

Step 1: First you need to download and install the demo version of deleted file recovery software. Connect the SSD to your system or laptop if you are using external SSD.

Step 2: Run the application

Step 3: After opening, it takes you to the home screen which gives you the following recovery options.

  • Recover Files
  • Recover Media
  • Recover drive

Step 4: Since this is about recovering files, choose recover files option. Then you get the following options:

  • Recover deleted files
  • Recover lost files

Step 5: Choose the suitable option depending on the type of recovery you want to perform. Choose the first option if you have to recover files that are deleted or choose second option to recover files that are lost.

Step 6: Now it scans and displays the list of drives. You will have to select the SSD from the list and click on “Next”

Step 7: User now gets an option to select the file formats to recover. You can check the file formats you want to recover from the list of file formats. You can also skip this if you want to recover all the files.

Step 8: After the scan is complete, the result is displayed. The scanning session can be saved using “Save Recovery Session” option. This option is helpful in if you want to purchase the license and recover files later. You will have to choose a destination folder to save the scanned recovery session.

NOTE:  The free demo version of deleted file recovery software can only display the list of files that can be recovered from SSD. In order to save or restore the actual files, one must purchase the license key for the full version and then perform the recovery process. You need not to perform the scan again to recover files from SSD. You can use the save recovery session to recover the files from the full version.

Points to Remember:

  1. Never save recovered files on the same SSD drive from which it has been recovered.
  2. Do not overwrite anything on the SSD once the data is lost or deleted from it.
